Betta fish
The betta, also known as the fighting fish, is a fascinating fish. With its stunning fins and colours, it is certainly one of the most beautiful fish in the aquarium hobby.
Bettas are actually easy to keep, but there are a few important points to bear in mind.
You should not keep two males in the same aquarium, as they will fight. However, they should not be kept on their own either. Snails, shrimps or bottom-dwelling fish can be kept with them very well. You can also add one or two female bettas to the tank.
How do I look after bettas?
Aquarium
Unfortunately, aquarium dimensions are frequently quoted online and even by aquarium manufacturers that have nothing to do with species-appropriate care. One often reads that 20 or 30-litre aquariums are sufficient. That is quite simply too small. In my opinion, they should be kept in aquariums of at least 60 litres or larger. Anything else constitutes animal cruelty.
Substrate
I use sand as a substrate, as I believe it offers the most benefits and allows the aquarium to develop best.
Planting
The betta loves densely planted aquariums, ideally with floating plants and driftwood.
Food
The betta eats flake or pellet food, frozen food and also live food.
Lighting
They do not like overly bright lighting.

As mentioned above, dense planting and driftwood. Water temperature 24–25 degrees, pH 6.9.
